The Wilderness Expedition consists of two phases:

Phase 1: Orientation (2 hrs)

Phase 2: Wilderness Adventure (3 days/2 nights)

 

PHASE 1: Orientation Workshop

Attended by the youth client and parent(s)/guardian(s) if desired or recommended by PS or LDA staff, the orientation workshop is designed to introduce the goals and objectives of the program, and to prepare clients for the outdoors.

Topics include:

  • Introduction
  • Goals & objectives (individual & group)
  • Overview of the curriculum and schedule
  • Location. Discussion of the base-camp/lodge sites.
  • Directions to site (transportation issues)
  • Medical forms / Waivers
  • Doctor's clearance / Health requirements
  • Trip planning
  • Proper clothing and gear requirements (outfitting available)
  • Food provisions (provided)
  • Individual personal concerns & potential challenges

 

PHASE 2: Wilderness Expedition (3 days / 2 nights)

Sample Itinerary

DAY 1:

  • Transportation to site
  • Arrive at camp / light lunch
  • Opening circle. Goals, itinerary, set-up campsite, safety issues and emergency plans
  • Hiking and nature lore. Learn about edible and medicinal plants
  • Outdoor survival skills
  • Survivor team building challenges
  • Trust activities
  • Dinner cooked over open-fire
  • Bannock cookout
  • Campfire and night-loring activities

DAY 2:
